13th February 2009----Toshiba Corporation, announced the new Toshiba TG01 ahead of the Mobile World Congress show – a super-slim, highly powered, multimedia-focused, mobile device ideal for the consumer that demands high-quality performance on the move – and raises the bar for mobile handsets. Featuring an enormous 4.1”1 Wide-VGA (800x480) touch-screen display, the TG01 comes with image tuning technology fostered from Toshiba’s LCD TV ”Regza”. Using advanced picture-definition technologies taken directly from the company’s acclaimed range of LCD TVs; the TG01’s delivers greater color image control, ensuring that the display is bright and vivid, with pin-sharp processing for fast-moving video playback. Add support for a wide range of popular video formats and it’s clear the TG01 sets new standards for portable entertainment on a mobile device. Toshiba’s TG01 is the world’s first mobile device with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon™ chipset. Snapdragon uses a custom processor design to deliver an industry leading combination of 1GHz computing and high-power efficiency. By offering processing performance, immersive multimedia, built-in GPS, and high-speed 3G connectivity integrated into a single chip, Snapdragon enables the TG01 to be a groundbreaking, super slim device that is immensely powerful.
Finally, an honest to goodness Qualcomm Snapdragon device is about to land in the form of the Toshiba TG01. The 9.9-mm thin handset will feature a 4.1-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixel) touchscreen display, HSDPA data, GPS, WiFi, a microSD slot. Most notable is that 1GHz Snapdragon chip that Toshiba claims makes the TG01 considerably faster than any device currently on the market with the promise to "revolutionize the mobile entertainment world."The TG01 is a touchscreen Windows Mobile phone with more display space, a higher resolution, faster processor and slimmer shell than any other smartphone, including Apple’s.
The processor is a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon, and it runs on Windows Mobile 6.1. That might turn some readers off the TG01; however Toshiba has put some sparkly new interfaces on it, to make it less WM6, more Toshiba.
While up front a 4.1 inch touchscreen with W-VGA resolution pumps out visuals they’re absolutely gorgeous.
The large touch-screen and Toshiba’s custom-built, three dimensional user interfaces provide users with easy-to-use navigation between different applications. Innovative gesture operations also make it easy to carry out everyday tasks without even touching the screen – a simple shake when the device is ringing, for instance, will automatically activate an incoming call, while an integrated tilt sensor allows users to switch between open applications just by tilting the device to the left or right. Also coupling with floating touch pod and zooming bar makes TG01’s one hand operation easier, and being 9.9mm1 thin makes sure it can fit into a slim pocket unnoticed – packing more technology into less space than before As a communications device, the TG01 also sets new benchmarks for others to follow. Providing users with access to a selection of social interaction platforms, including Windows Live Messenger, as well as connectivity to GSM/GPRS/EDGE and 3G HSPDA/HSUPA, and support for Bluetooth v2.0 and WiFi makes it easy and simple to keep in touch.
Windows Mobile 6.1 is humming away inside, but Toshiba has re-skinned it to create a neater interface. There will also be a neat new feature which will allow you to answer and hang up phone calls by shaking the phone. A microSD card slot will ensure it's a very multimedia-friendly device, so you'll be able to store hundreds of music tracks and videos on it.
Inside there’s also GPS, HSDPA and HSUPA, DivX support and Internet Explorer Mobile 6, including with full Flash compatibility.

What make Toshiba TG01 different?
- The processor is a brand-new 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon, although it's based on the tried and tested ARM architecture. The TG01 is the first phone to feature the silicon. Snapdragon is designed for mobile multi-tasking.
- It’s an Ultra slim only 9.9mm.
- There's full support for fast 3G HSPDA/HSUPA, meaning you'll be able to get super speeds from the TG01's web-access.
- The 4.01-inch screen has a Wide-VGA resolution - 800x480.
- The clever features for video playback such as Color Matching, Color Image Control and Dynamic Gamma, so you can get the perfect picture.
- There's support for DivX as well as Windows Mobile formats, so the device will be able to handle far more video.
- Toshiba has pitched this as an entertainment device. The addition of a card slot always helps, so it's added in microSD for the playback of music and movies from other sources.
- Toshiba has overlaid this with a more graphical 3D interface to give one-touch application switching.
- Surely the best new feature is the ability to shake the TG01 to answer calls.
Toshiba’s TG01 will be available in two colours, with consumers able to choose from a subtle deep black or a vivid white. Pricing and network availability will be confirmed at a later date.
