The new Sony Ericsson Idou will probably create as much hype as the original XPERIA. Not only it is the first 12 megapixel GSM cameraphone, but it's also the first device presented to ever run on the brand new open source Symbian user interface that's still being developed by the Symbian Foundation. The 3.5-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels, GPS and Wi-Fi and the relatively compact size are just an added bonus to that already impressive novel package.
The phone comes with an "eye-liner" like stylus - akin to the one that comes packed with the Samsung Omnia.
Sony Ericsson's new handset could render digital cameras obsolete by offering as many megapixels as many semi-professional and consumer cameras.
The ‘Idou’ is one of a number of projects that will be launched this year under the umbrella of Entertainment Unlimited.
Idou encapsulates the future of mobile entertainment in the palm of your hand delivering visual communication like never before.
Based on what will become the Symbian Foundation operating system, thousands of applications are available online letting you install new applications and download exciting content from PlayNow™ to make the Idou truly yours.

Entertainment Unlimited is Sony Ericsson's next step in integrating communication and entertainment on mobile devices. The brand combines the best of Sony Ericsson's Walkman music platform, Cyber-shot imaging experience, and Java gaming and messaging services. It also seamlessly integrates mobile phones with home consumer devices like TVs, PCs, and HiFi systems. Users will have access to thousands of applications and will be able to download content over Sony Ericsson's PlayNow service.
The Idou will also compete directly with Apple's hugely popular iPhone, and features a 3.5in widescreen touch-screen and powerful flash for high quality photos. It also has all the capabilities of Sony Ericsson's Walkman range of phones, which means it can be used for music and video playback as well as taking pictures. The device will run the Symbian mobile phone operating system, and users will be able to download extra software and applications to their device.
